Our Reading Cafés are tailored to these age groups:

EYFS/KS1 Reading Café
Begins with formal message to parents/carers emphasising the importance of reading for pleasure, then children join them for informal parent/carer – child reading time.
One session is:

  • 1 hour in school, we provide books & resources to be used during the session and recommended reading lists for parents/carers to take away.
  • Plus 30 books to borrow for the rest of term.

KS2 Reading Café
Begins with formal message to parents/carers emphasising the importance of reading for pleasure & how they can help their child who is now reading more independently, then children join them for informal parent/carer – child reading time.
One session is:

  • 1 hour in school, we provide books and resources to be used during the session and recommended reading lists for parents/carers to take away.
  • Plus 30 books to borrow for the rest of term.

What a lovely atmosphere! The session was loved by all! The children were enthused by all the wonderful books. The parents were inspired to read to their children at home and were appreciative of all the useful tips given by the library ladies, to make reading a special time.
